Anyone who thought pottery was a lost art, better make their way to the Living Arts Centre (LAC).

The city centre venue is unveiling a new exhibition this week at its second-floor gallery that showcases the work of local pottery artists who are keeping the craft alive.

The exhibition entitled Emerge, runs until Aug, 21. The opening reception takes place Thursday (July 7) from 7-9 p.m.

Emerge features pieces from more than 20 members of the Mississauga Potters' Guild.

LAC spokesperson Allison Vrbanac said the theme of the show is tied to its title.

"It's about a variety of different artists who have the opportunity to both emerge into the local art community and, also, kind of emulating that emergence in their working with the material of clay into the finished piece," she said.

Though it's hard to pick just one, Vrbanac noted that Jacquie Blondin's creation Alchemy is not to be missed. The piece is a curious melding of clay, wood, steel, metal and water.

The reception will include a juried show where Megan Press, former LAC gallery curator, and ceramic artist Marc Egan will name the winners they have chosen.

It's been a few years since the guild has been on display at the LAC's gallery. The last being a 35th anniversary show in 2013 entitled, Chronos.

Admission to the latest exhibition is free.

The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 1-4 p.m.
