Ancestral Paths
My artistic endeavor, "Chemin Du Roy: An Ancestral Path" is a visual saga chronicling my paternal grandmother's family, from arriving from France to the encompassing areas surrounding The Great Lakes. Commencing in 1658 in Quebec, the journey traverses the lives of ancestors, from their humble beginnings to pivotal life moments, culminating in the union of my parents.

Central to the narrative are the symbolic representations placed throughout the artwork. Each house signifies a familial abode, while animals embody the diverse connections to Canada and the US. The four corner reliefs depict the evolution of transportation mirroring the family's migration—by boat, train, car, and RV—each emblematic of different lived experiences in their journey.

Inspired by "The Game of Life," the artwork incorporates Career, House, and Action cards, inviting viewers to partake in a playful exploration. The game board, adorned with cards and currency, reveals intricate details of actual homes, careers, and pivotal actions, while fostering a sense of nostalgia and wonder.
Embedded within the artwork is an invitation for viewers to reflect on themes of immigration, French Canadian heritage, and the intricacies of familial bonds. The journey unfolds chronologically, echoing the cyclical nature of life, ultimately culminating in retirement options that beckon contemplation on life's journey.
Through meticulous research and personal anecdotes, I have crafted a visual narrative that breathes life into ancestral stories, inviting viewers to ponder the interconnectedness of paths chosen and untaken. "Chemin Du Roy" is not merely an artwork but a testament to the enduring legacy of family and the journeys that shape us.
