Combining Line & Colour

The last two few weeks I have been sharing my love of colour. We have been exploring what the Colour Wheel is, how it has evolved over time while zeroing on the specific schemes derived from the wheel and the importance of colour in compositions and the hues that catch our attention.

You might not believe that I love colour since my ceramic work is often glazed in matted neutrals or glossy whites but in my early teaching days, I was a painter, even though sculpture was my preferred discipline. After university, painting was more practical in terms of space and supplies, plus I was able to put into action all the things about colour I was teaching.  Colour was and is the backbone to so many art and craft projects.

A Colourful Journey Through Time

What's your Favourite Colour?

This is probably the most popular conversation starter of all time, at least for kids. Think about your favourite colours throughout your life. Has it always stayed the same or has it like you, evolved over time to richer or more sublime palettes? Keep it in mind as you explore colour in our world.

What Season Are You?

Remember that question from the 1980s?

Colour Theory Made Easy

Colour Theory Made Easy

Learning about Colour Theory is essential for anyone who intends to use colour, whether in sewing, painting, interior or interactive digital design.

Understanding the key concepts is the place to start: Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Warm, Cool, Hue, Intensity, Value, Monochromatic, Analogous, Complementary and Split Complementary.  That’s a lot of vocabulary to digest. We are going to go through each term using coloured pencils as examples.

To understand these terms, you need to be aware of The Colour Wheel. It consists of 12 segments and can be filled using only three colours.

Planning in the Time of COVID - for Teachers

Last week, I created a schedule plan for each of my Period 2 Cohorts detailing where students are supposed to be every day throughout the Quadmester. One was designed for learners who like to read with written TEXT and one for Visual Learners using ICONS.  Next, I created a teacher plan for period 2 with ICONS for one week with specific areas for each aspect of our teaching day.

Yesterday, I completed the Quadmester 1 – Weekly Teacher Planner for Period 2 - Cohort A & B and then shortly after created the Quadmester 1 – Weekly Teacher Planner for Period 1 - Cohort A & B.

If you are a Secondary teacher in the Adaptive model in Dufferin Peel, I hope you find the Teacher Planners useful. To get your free PDF copies of these Teacher Planners subscribe to my website email list. I hope you stay for a while. And don't worry I don't send out many emails.

Help is on its Way - Social Media to the Rescue!

For the last week, I have been researching quick fixes for virtual lesson ideas. It’s been a fast and furious journey into the unknown. There are no quick fixes as is takes time to research and test out the ideas. Hopefully, I can save you some time and lead you to what I have found to be very helpful.
